Play & Learn Supporting your child’s learning

You’re not alone if, when you ask how their day at school was, all you get is “fine” or a grunt. Here are some questions you can ask to get more than a one word answer about what your child has been doing all day at school:

  1. If you could swap seats with someone and sit next to someone else, who would it be? Why?
  2. What was the best thing that happened today?
  3. If you could change one thing about today, what would it be?
  4. Did anyone in your class do something funny?
  5. What’s the biggest difference between this year and last year?
  6. Can you show me something you learned today?
  7. What rules are different at school than what we do at home?
  8. Who did you play with today? What did you play?
  9. Tell me about 3 times today you used your pencil
  10. What was the hardest thing you had to do today?
  11. If you could be the teacher tomorrow, what would you do?
